Coming off a loss to Evangel University, the Baker women’s basketball team rebounded with a pair of conference wins over Avila University, 62-52, Feb. 11, and Culver-Stockton College, 59-40, Saturday.
A balanced offense led the Wildcats past Avila, as five players recorded double-digit scoring lines. Juniors Jenna Brantley, Emily Gibson and Brittany Hines scored 10 points while junior Aubree Gustin and sophomore Gloria Atanmo led the team with 11 points.
Gibson posted her 15th double-double of the season with 24 points and 19 rebounds against Culver-Stockton. The Baker defense held Culver-Stockton to 40 points, and only 16 in the second half.
“We held them to 40 points for the game, which was about 11 below their average,” head coach Susan Decker said. “We’ve been doing that a lot. I’ve been pretty pleased with how we’ve been defending people.”
The Wildcats hosted William Jewell College Thursday in Collins Center. Results were not available at presstime.
"They are one game behind us as far as in the conference, so Thursday's game is, it's a big one," Decker said. "I'm looking forward to playing it, it's just a game we can't overlook, and I don't think our kids will."<br/>&#160;
