Two overtimes were not enough for the Baker men’s soccer team to score the go-ahead goal against Missouri Valley College Saturday. The ‘Cats tied the Vikings 1-1, making their record 9-1-4 overall and 2-1-3 in the HAAC.
It didn’t take long for BU to take the lead in the first half, as senior Matt Germain booted one into the goal 27 minutes into the contest. The Vikings didn’t answer until the 50-minute mark to tie the game at 1-1. Junior Alex Burton recorded five saves and the Wildcats had five shots on goal compared to the Vikings’ eight. Senior Elliott Harvey said he thought the team performed well overall.
“I think we obviously could’ve done better since we tied, but we worked hard,” Harvey said.”We just couldn’t convert our chances.”
The tie bumped Baker down to fifth in the HAAC standings. The ‘Cats will have a week of rest to prepare for an always-tough battle against Lindenwood University Saturday in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions sit just above BU at No. 4 in the HAAC, and Harvey said the game will be tough on the road.
“I feel like if we come out and play the way we’re supposed to, we can beat any team in the nation,” he said.
