The Baker University volleyball team was on the road again for its second tournament of the year over the weekend and its conference opener Tuesday against Missouri Valley College.
The ’Cats swept Missouri Valley in three sets by the score of 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 to improve their overall record to 4-5.
Baker improved from its first tournament to its second tournament by finishing in the Bellevue Invitational Tournament 2-2 last weekend. BU had a 3-1 victory over Dordt College and a 3-0 win over Concordia Friday.
“I think we did a lot better than our first tournament,” junior Savannah Smith said. “We got our first game jitters out of the way and really bonded together on the court.”
The team hit a rough patch Saturday, losing 3-0 to Hastings College and 3-1 to Lubbock Christian College. Junior Jana Boss led the team in assists with an average of 8.14 and added on 2.43 kills per game. Senior Brooke Allen led the BU with 5.79 digs per game and served four aces. Boss and Allen were named the HAAC Libero and Setter of the Week, respectively.
BU will play its first four home matches in the Baker Tournament Friday and Saturday in Collins Center. The ’Cats will take on Midland University, Oklahoma City University, Spring Hill College and John Brown University.
