Baker University Student Senate President Caleb Watts was impressed with the students who ran for freshmen class officers.
Last week, only two freshmen had turned in petitions to run, but when the ballot was distributed Tuesday via email, there were 13 people running for five positions.
“I am very excited,” Watts said about the new officers. “I hope they can live up to the expectations that I foresee for them. I hope they can be a great class.”
The new officers include President Kacee Britton, Vice President Carly Berblinger, Secretary/Treasurer Claire White and Representatives Alex Cataldo and Brandon Haefke.
Watts said that even those running that didn’t win, like Liz Loudon who ran for president, will still be involved in senate by representing a different organization on campus.
“Even those that didn’t get it are already trying, and that’s cool,” Watts said.
Watts contributes more students getting involved to junior Anna Richards and senior Bryce Bowers talking to the freshmen that are in the honors salon classes.
“Those were the students that were really receptive and wanted to be involved,” Watts said. “I just think it all went really well.”
