Sophomore Nancy Delgado was one of 52 recipients to be awarded the Merit Award from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
NSCS is an honors society that recognizes first or second-year high-achieving students in the top 20 percent of their class. The Baker chapter of NSCS was chartered in the spring of 2011, where Delgado was inducted into the society.
She now serves as the treasurer of the organization and is honored that this organization recognized her academics and achievements.
“I filled out the application for this award this past summer, but I never thought I would actually win.” Delgado said.
She had to fill out two essays as part of the application in which she talked about her experiences at Baker.
“I talked about how being involved in different organizations has helped me build my character and has made me grow as a person.” Delgado said.
As a token for this award, she will receive $1,000 in scholarships, which she can spend on different financial dues such as tuition or studying abroad.
