The Baker University Dining Services and Baker Farm Hands will host the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, an event to raise awareness of world hunger issues, at 5 p.m. Sunday in Allen Dining Hall.
“The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the gravity of the hunger issues that face our world population and to help students learn more about what they can do to help and how they can get involved,” Tanya Sieber, interim director of dining services, said.
Oxfam is an international organization that works to find a solution to poverty and injustice, and asks organizations around the world to host hunger banquets.
Guest speakers at the banquet, including farmer and food activist and BU alumnus Blain Snipstal, will speak about their missions and experiences.
Also, Marta Chiappe, sociology faculty at Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay, will illuminate sociopolitical and economic institutions that create situations of hunger and poverty throughout the world.
The event is open to the public and donations will be accepted.
