The Cat Pack will soon be set loose to show Wildcat pride at Baker University sporting events.
Brett Bruner, director of student life, said that the Cat Pack, the new spirit program, is a group effort among the 14 students that attended the planning meeting, the office of student life and the athletic department to get more students to have pride in Baker, especially Baker Athletics.
The office of student life and the athletic department started this program by doing background work so the program will be sustainable on campus.
“At Baker there is a lot of potential with fan involvement,” Assistant Athletic Director Andrew Patch said. “We are hoping that the Cat Pack is the spark, is the thing, that ignites the … student involvement at our games.”
The Cat Pack, once it gets up and running, will be a student-led program.
There are different levels of time commitment within the program, ranging from being on the executive committee to simply attending sporting events.
Patch wants Baker University to be proud of the student involvement at the sporting events.
The new spirit group will attend as many sporting events as possible.
“All students are welcome to be a Cat Pack (member) and support Baker athletes,” junior Aaron Caldwell said.
The cost for students to join the program is $15.
“The membership fee will give students a lot of benefits and perks,” Bruner said.
Some of these perks may include a t-shirt and concession vouchers, as well as the opportunity to collect points toward a prize at the end of the year to the person who has the highest amount..
“All of the bases will be covered, as far as attending games goes,” Caldwell said.
The fan group will provide students a positive outlook on sporting events and sportsmanship.
Cat Pack members will have more opportunities to win prizes than other spectators at Baker athletic events as well.
“People are going to know that is the Cat Pack,” Patch said.
