Irwin Hall Resident Assistant
The residential assistant staff of Irwin Hall will be working in place of ghosts and goblins to haunt residents on Halloween night.
The Irwin RAs are hosting a haunted house as one of their programs they are required to host.
The haunted house will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the basement of Irwin Hall.
“It’s just one of our programs we’re putting on and people will bring canned goods for the food pantry at the (Baldwin City) First United Methodist Church,” Resident Assistant Lindsay Hill said.
Attendees are to bring a canned food itemas admission into the haunted house. The canned food items will be donated to the Baldwin City First United Methodist Church food pantry.
Irwin resident sophomore Shelly Taylor said while she may not be able to attend the haunted house on Halloween, she will try to donate to the food pantry anyway.
“I think it’s cool that they’re charging a food can to donate,” Taylor said. “I don’t know if I’ll go or not, because I might have other plans … but I might go get some (canned foods) just to donate.”
The idea of having a haunted house in the basement of Irwin came about because there are no students living in the basement of Irwin.
“All of the RAs were going on about how it can be kind of creepy down there,” Resident Assistant Megan Vail said. “So, it came about as we were thinking of programs, it would be really great to make a haunted house down there since it can be so creepy at times.”
Staff members from each building will take part in working at the haunted house.
“I know a lot of the RA (men) from Gessner will be doing a lot of the haunted house itself; the scary part,” Vail said.
The Irwin game room will be filled with refreshments, snacks and games while the hallways will be the haunted part.
In years past for Halloween, residents of Irwin Hall have participated in a door-decorating contest, and this year, New Living Center resident assistants are hosting a door-decorating contest as well.
Other programs hosted by the RAs in the month of October include a smoothie program, in hopes to promote health and wellness.
In addition to the haunted house, Vail and other resident assistants have also been encouraging residents to participate in Walktober.
