The Baker University women’s soccer team beat Benedictine College 1-0 in double overtime Saturday at Liston Stadium.
“It started out as a typical Baker (versus) Benedictine game, back and forth, hard tackles everywhere,” head coach Nate Houser said.
With just over six minutes left in the first half, senior Skylar Baker received a yellow card. She then received a red card three minutes into the second half and was ejected from the game.
“I thought we had a very good plan going into the half and then the beauty of the game rears its ugly head,” Houser said.
Despite fielding only 10 players after the ejection, Baker outshot Benedictine 8-2 in the second half.
“I thought we were more disciplined, more organized, worked harder and we had a shot in the second half,” Houser said.
Play continued until one minute into the second overtime when sophomore Amber Pickering lofted a ball into the box and freshman Ashley Mauck netted a goal.
BU will play Culver-Stockton College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Canton, Mo.
