With two tournaments under its belt, the Baker University wrestling team progressed with a number of men already qualified for the national tournament.
The wrestlers competed in the Dan Harris Open hosted by Baker Nov. 6 and the Bethany Open hosted by Bethany College in Lindsborg Saturday.
“It’s a great feeling to see the kids you’ve been working with be successful,” assistant wrestling coach Levi Calhoun said. “Having been in their shoes, I know what it takes to be successful on that level and I am excited to be able to guide them.”
At the Bethany Open 13 men placed. The Wildcats won four weight classes at the Bethany Open, consisting of freshman Bo Newport at 125 pounds, junior Jake Price at 165 pounds, senior Dylan Berg at 285 pounds and freshman Nick Haugen and senior Jarell Price were co-champions at 149 pounds.
“(Freshmen) Dylan Coppenbarger, Bo Newport and Nick Haugen wrestled very well and qualified for the national tournament,” Calhoun said.
