The Baker University men’s soccer team took another step towards its ultimate goal of a national championship with a 1-0 win over Hutson-Tillotson University Monday.
The Wildcats defeated the Rams on a goal from junior Nate Byarlay in overtime. The goal for Byarlay was his first of the season.
Defensively, sophomore Matt Bickley recorded three saves to give him a total of 62 for the season. The ’Cats defense limited the Rams to nine shots, three on goal, while the offense recorded 17 shots, four of them which were on goal.
With the victory, the ’Cats advanced to their first national quarterfinal in school history.
Baker awaits the winner of Tuesday’s match between Great Falls (Mont.) and Grand View (Iowa) and will play the victor at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Orange Beach, Ala.
