After the Baker University men’s cross country team and two members of the women’s team finished their season Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Wash., members from both teams have headed to Panama City, Fla. to run a half marathon Saturday.
“Not everybody on both teams are going,” head coach Zach Kindler said. “It’s something we do at the end of the year just for fun, but as well as go down and run a half marathon.”
The Wildcats will participate in the third annual Run for the Redfish half marathon, which helps raise awareness for the redfish habitat and the coastal waters of Florida.
Kindler said while the reason of the trip is to run in the half marathon, the teams also have other events in mind as well.
“We travel down there with the purpose of running the race obviously,” Kindler said. “But we always do a type of service project when we travel as well too.”
Women’s team captain Lindsey Brown and seniors Chris Scheideman and Justin Hill, co-captains for the men’s team, are in charge of planning the events and the community service project.
“Our captains do the itinerary and set everything for that as well, too,” Kindler said.
