With starting point guard Jordan Honore unable to play, senior Joe Wachter stepped in to score 17 points to help lead the Baker University men’s basketball team to a 54-43 win over Benedictine College Thursday in Collins Center.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead before junior Samer Jasser had to leave the game with an ankle injury. The Ravens clawed back into the game, but Jasser was able to return later in the half and Baker held on to a 25-21 halftime lead.
BU was able to hold Benedictine at arm’s length with key baskets down the stretch from junior Ben Steinlage, who joined Wachter in double figures with 10 points.
Baker improved to 12-7 overall and 5-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with the victory against the Ravens. The ‘Cats will return to play Avila University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.
