Intramural five-on-five basketball is underway and ready for another year of competitive teams to battle it out to become the reigning champs.
This year there are 13 teams competing for the final tournament, which will take place Feb. 27-28. In the tournament, eight teams will strive for the No. 1 spot in the league.
This year, new Intramural Director Joe Ahmadian added a few twists to the league. He helped add a faculty team to compete against the students and added a women’s division, where there are four teams competing.
“There isn’t a ton of chances for the girls to get out and compete, so I want to try to include them in every sport for intramurals,” Ahmadian said.
The games are usually Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights and 12 games are played on each day. Ahmadian says there are some skilled teams within the competitive league and feels like the women’s division should be competitive. He also hopes the new faculty team can make a break in the league.
Ahmadian is looking forward to see how the tournament will turn out and is also anticipating adding tennis as an intramural sport in the spring.
