The spring tennis season is just around the corner as the Baker University women’s team prepares for its first competition against Stephens College Saturday in Lawrence. The past few years have been a struggle for the Wildcat tennis team with a coaching change, but second-year head coach Joe Ahmadian has things back on track.
“As a team, I think we are more prepared than we have been in the past. The team has a good dynamic and is working well together, “ junior Danielle Griggs said. “Coach has brought in some more talent that will allow us to compete at a higher level, so I feel great about the upcoming season.”
Griggs said the team has played more matches in practice than past years, and that is one of many reasons she believes they will have success this season.
“We definitely have a group of girls who are willing to work and want to be at practice, which is so important for the team,” Griggs said.
The first serve for the women will begin at 5 p.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence. The men will join the women Feb. 25 in Kansas City, Mo., as they travel to play Rockhurst University.
