The Baker University softball team left the Cowtown Classic Feb. 18 in Forth Worth, Texas, after playing just three games. The tournament was scheduled for Saturday as well, however rain stopped the tournament.
Baker started the tournament by defeating Northwood University 6-0, with sophomore Erin Greenwood pitching a three-hit shutout.
In game two against No. 3 Oklahoma City University, Baker led the game 1-0 through five innings. After a Wildcat error, Oklahoma City scored a run to tie the game and take it into extra innings, where Oklahoma City went on to defeat the Wildcats 3-2.
“It’s not the way we want to lose games,” head coach Matt Windle said. “But (their coach gave) a lot of praise for us and our program because he’s not used to playing a good Baker team.”
In the final game against Texas Wesleyan University, Baker built an early 5-0 lead, and eventually won the game 5-4.
Windle said the team needs to continue to work on limiting mistakes, as well as scoring early and scoring often.
BU will play next March 9-10 in the CBC Meltdown in Conway, Ark.
