Late, late, late night studying should be a trending topic on Twitter because it sure seems to be a trending topic coming from many students this semester.
As I go from class to class or see people in the library and around campus, all I have heard about lately is how busy they are.
They have this or that, or they have to go someplace and ultimately, they aren’t having fun and are all about work.
To be honest, I don’t understand why.
I am taking 19 hours, which is similar to most semesters, and am heavily involved with multiple organizations, and I too feel a bit overwhelmed.
Maybe it is the classes, or teachers are tricking us, or maybe students are procrastinating more and more. I don’t know the answer, but it seems to be on everyone’s minds that they are just plain busy from top to bottom.
For instance, I see one person in the library almost every night doing mounds of homework.
Some majors are harder than others, but I feel bad for him.
He literally is just working away at multiple assignments, looking like he has no fun.
It just gets me that students are so busy.
I feel like part of the problem is procrastination.
It is college and we are meant to do some late night studying.
Most students wait until the night before or maybe the class before to study for a test, but is that really helping them?
Why not get an early start? It might help.
I have waited multiple times until the last minute and even pulled some all-nighters.
In my time here at Baker so far, I have learned my lesson to try to get ahead if I can.
This semester I have approached studying with a new frame of mind.
I want to get ahead, when time allows me, and not overwhelm myself by waiting until the last minute.
I know sometimes it is impossible to get so far ahead that you are at ease with classes, but getting a touch ahead will help out in the long run.
Putting a plan together of what needs to get done first, second and third is always a good option.
It is all about time management and seeing how to get everything done while still having fun.
No, it isn’t fun to sit in the library every night and do homework, but it is nice to enjoy something else and get away for a bit.
Just think, if you get away and do something you enjoy, it might actually help you refocus to come back and get stuff done so you aren’t so far behind that all you talk about is “I am too busy, I am stressed or I never have time for anything.”
