Four Baker University basketball players were named to the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference teams Monday.
Senior Gloria Atanmo and freshman Shelbi Petty made the list for the women’s team, and juniors Ben Steinlage and Corey Anderson represent the men’s team.
Steinlage has a 63.5 field goal percentage and averages nearly 12 points per game. He leads the Wildcats in both categories, which helped him earn second team all-conference recognition. However, he attributes this individual award to his teammates.
“It means a lot being recognized by anybody,” Steinlage said. “The team’s success to me is the biggest reason why I would get individual recognition.”
Anderson was named to the honorable mention team, averaging 10.45 points per game and shooting 40 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Steinlage and Anderson helped lead BU to their first postseason conference game in more than 10 years Wednesday in Collins Center.
For the women, Atanmo ended her senior season as a third team conference selection. Atanmo led the Wildcats in double-doubles, blocks, steals and rebounds.
Petty was named to the honorable mention team and leads the NAIA with a 45.9 3-point field goal percentage. She also averaged more than 10 points for the ‘Cats this season.
