The Baker University bowling team will compete in the United States Bowling Congress Sectional Qualifier Saturday and Sunday in Euless, Texas.
The ’Cats will bowl against 12 other teams and are expecting to finish in the top four and move on to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships April 19 in Lincoln, Neb.
Head coach Cheryl Keslar believes her team can achieve this goal, but said the team’s overall spare percentage will need to improve.
“Our spare percentage has to go up,” Keslar said. “We have to just work on our basics and our fundamentals that we have been working on for three weeks, and we can get there.”
The team has faced a three-week layoff since its previous tournament, but Keslar said BU has been using the time off to improve on multiple skills.
“We are focusing on not getting frustrated, staying positive and working on basic fundamentals,” Keslar said.
BU is ranked No. 40 in the nation and has collected 1,430 points this season.
“I know that we can do this,” Keslar said. “For our program to go from the bottom three years ago to ranked 40th right now, that’s pretty good.”
