President Pat Long spoke at the faculty senate meeting to update the professors on the Baker University Board of Trustees meeting. Long said during the meeting, the trustees went to different locations around Baker's campus and talked about each place and, at most places, about what could be improved.

Baker University is a liberal arts institution that promotes the ideals of reaching worldly perspectives and using those in order to better understand the world we live in. These ideals are vital and inseparable from the education students receive here, and they prepare students with the advantage of holding a greater appreciation for that big, real world that looms before us when we take our final walk at graduation.

Baker University students had the chance to voice their opinions about what they see on their plates after U.S. Foodservice presented sample foods and surveys Nov 2. "It was to show potential items to students, and it's what I would call a monotony-breaker," Director of Food Service Darrell Bowersox said.

Wireless Internet to cover campus

Baker University students, faculty and staff will soon make better connections with the completion of more wireless Internet access points by the end of the academic year. Baker first had wireless Internet access installed in July 2005. Access points were then installed in seven campus buildings during the 2005-2006 school year including the residence halls, Collins Library and Harter Union.

Accountability key even after elections

The elections are mostly over for the year. We've all had a chance to vote, see who won and even complain a bit if our candidate of choice didn't make it through. That does not mean our responsibility as voters is over for the next two years, though. In fact, the hard part of our job is just beginning.

A world of international education is set to be explored next week as various activities have been scheduled to focus on study abroad. Director of Study Abroad Cindy Novelo said the topic was chosen for the week to correspond with a national, yearlong dedication to overseas studies.

With a light wind but otherwise perfect conditions, the cross country teams were given home course advantage for the Region V championship Saturday at the Baldwin City Municipal Golf Course. Sophomore Donnie Gardner led the men by taking 14th place with a time of 27:00.

Though they came from different walks of faith and spirituality, about 20 people gathered on the common ground of South Park in Lawrence to gain inspiration for helping the poor in Douglas County. According to an invitational letter written by Lawrence Community Interfaith Initiative Coordinator Steve Ozark, Sunday's event was convocation to help initiate ideas and discussions to aid those living in poverty.

Though they may not experience a typical weekend, about 92 students have registered to get a glimpse of what Baker University has to offer. After losing only two seniors last season, the Baker University's men's basketball team is returning 11 experienced players for what head coach Rick Weaver calls, "the toughest schedule we've had during my 22 years of coaching here." "I think we're going to have a competitive team," Weaver said.

Being the new guy on a basketball team can be a hard transition for some, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the newcomers to the Wildcat men's team. "We have two transfers this year - junior Taylor Parker and sophomore Ryan Highfill," head coach Rick Weaver said.
