The Baker University men’s basketball team opened 2014 on a two-game win streak, sweeping the McPherson College Classic on Friday and Saturday in McPherson.

The Wildcats trailed in both games, but managed to outscore their opponents when it mattered most. BU opened the tournament with a 65-63 victory over host school McPherson College. The team then slipped past Bethel College 54-50 on Saturday.

Junior Jared Fulks broke through for a team-high 17 points against McPherson, while fellow junior Jauan Wilson chipped in 12. Senior EJ Carter rounded out the Wildcats in double digits with 11.

On Saturday, the 0-14 Bethel College Threshers had a six-point advantage over BU at halftime. However, the Wildcats outscored Bethel by 10 points in the second half, leading to the 54-50 victory.

Wilson was the lone Wildcat to score in double figures during the contest, as the Wildcats shot just 33 percent from the field.

BU will look to push its win streak to three against Heart of America Athletic Conference rival Benedictine College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Atchison.
