Baker men’s basketball took a demanding win from Culver-Stockton Jan. 10 in the Collins Center.
It was bleeding orange in a matchup compiled of Wildcats as Baker secured this 90-61 win, keeping them in contention for the conference tournament.
Senior guard Miles Tucker produced a third of Baker’s points, scoring 30 with two rebounds and assists to add on. This is Tucker’s second game scoring 30 or more, making him Saturday’s player of the game.
Freshman forward Cam Jones scored 17 of his own in this matchup, making him an honorable mention. The freshman nearly had a double-double in the first half, but finished the game with 13 rebounds and two assists. This would be his 11th game scoring 10 points or more and continuing to be a threat both offensively and defensively.
With 13 assists coming from Baker’s squad, juniors Alex Gunnels and Lucas Lyons led the team with three each to record on the stat sheet.
Aggressive defense and quick transition were the topics of conversation for Baker turning into the new year. They were able to accomplish just that, holding Clarke University to 60 with a spread of 16 on Jan. 3, and now holding Culver-Stockton to 61 with their largest spread of the season, 29.
In January, Baker has six more conference matchups that can turn the tide for the Wildcats. This will be nothing short of a challenge, as this includes No. 22-ranked Graceland with their exceptional 12-game winning streak and five of the six teams holding a seed above Baker in the Heart of America Conference standings.
Baker will set out to take on Benedictine Jan. 14 in Atchison, Kan., where they seek to earn their sixth conference win and build a forefront for the rest of the season.
