U.S. Marine Corps Band New Orleans to perform on campus

Story by Sarah Baker, Editor

The U.S. Marine Corps Band New Orleans will perform at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rice Auditorium. Its brass and woodwind quintets will be featured.

Before the concert at 10 a.m., band members teach a master class for Baker music students in McKibbin Recital Hall. A master class is similar to a question-and-answer session for students to learn from the band’s experiences. They will also teach a master class at the University of Kansas.

The U.S. Marine Corps Band New Orleans will also play the national anthem at this weeks Chiefs game.

Director of Bands Frank Perez said that the symphonic band members are currently touring and were looking for places to perform.

“They happen to be on tour and in the area,” Perez said. “Whenever there is a military group in the area, we try to reach out to them, and maybe do something with the students.”

The concert is free and open to the community.
