No. 5 men’s soccer wins OT thriller
Senior Amer Didic and the men’s soccer team celebrated in style after a 1-0 double overtime conference win over Benedictine College Wednesday at Liston Stadium. This puts the team at 10-1-1 and 4-0-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
In the 107th minute, Benedictine had a handball in the box, giving Baker a penalty kick and the opportunity to end the game. Didic, a 2014 NAIA All-American, stepped up to take the shot. The second the ball went into the goal, the ‘Cats ran off the field, some without their shirts on, as Liston Stadium roared with cheers.<br/>
This was Didic’s seventh goal of the season and fourth game-winning goal.
The Wildcats controlled the entire game, keeping a majority possession and outshooting the Ravens 25 to 5. Didic had five shots and junior Keaton Anchors added four.
Junior goalkeeper Ryan Emme did not have to make any saves for the shutout, while Benedictine’s Caleb Jenkins had six saves.
The ‘Cats play next on Oct. 10 against conference opponent Grand View University at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex. Grand View is 4-4-1 and 2-1-0 in the Heart after recently defeating Benedictine 3-2.
