Men’s soccer stays perfect in conference play
The No. 4 Wildcats defeated Heart of America Athletic Conference opponents Avila 1-0 and Graceland 2-0, bringing their overall record to 13-1-1 and their Heart record a perfect 7-0.
Baker controlled possession for the majority of the Graceland game, allowing Graceland only one shot on goal. Heart Defensive Player of the Week Ryan Emme earned his fourth consecutive shutout. Graceland’s Uribe was kept busy in the goal, making nine saves.
Kyle Young scored early for the ‘Cats in the 13th minute, and Amer Didic added another in the 70th minute off of an assist from Jordan Thacker.
Against Avila, Austin Halsey led the offensive attack with four of the team’s 12 shots. Avila had 12 shots, but keeper Emme only had to make one save for the shutout. Keaton Anchors scored the lone goal of the game unassisted in the ninth minute.
The ‘Cats have scored 40 total goals this season while only allowing eight. Baker also ranks third in the NAIA in shutouts with 10.
The ‘Cats will take on the Missouri Valley Vikings at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Marshall, Missouri. The Vikings are 12-2-0 overall and 7-1-0 in the conference, which should make for a very close Heart matchup.
