As students return to school, so does football. After a 9-2 season last year, the Baker Football staff has experienced some coaching changes, along with players leaving the program and transferring in. Head Coach Miguel Regalado aims to have another great year and take the program even further.

Now, of course, with winning comes a downside: Successful coaches often get opportunities elsewhere for higher-level positions 

“This is the youngest staff I’ve ever been around. We have four coaches that are coaching critical positions and all four of them were playing for us last year. I’m excited to see them coach,” Regalado said. 

The new coaching staff includes

Sam Heggemann- Quarterbacks Coach

Heggemann is a first-year coach after playing quarterback for the team last season. With 2,625 passing yards in his career and three years of playing, Heggemann is expected to be a valuable addition to the staff.

Cole Fisher- Running Backs Coach

Fisher is also in his first year as a coach after serving as a running back on the team last season. With 1,309 rushing yards over two seasons at Baker, Fisher brings experience and familiarity to the role.

Deshon Lewis- Defensive Backs

Lewis enters his first year coaching after a four-year career as a starting defensive back. Being a starting player freshman through senior year is a major accomplishment that could help him mentor younger players. He aims to make a lasting impact on a developing, more knowledgeable defensive backs unit.

Adrian Tamayo- Defensive Line

Tamayo is also in his first-year on the coaching staff. He was a transfer from Clarke University, where he was a 2 year starter there. Then transferred to Baker for his last year, where he started as well. He looks to improve the Defensive Line. 

“In addition to my staff, this is the youngest Baker Football team that I’ve ever been around. 95 out of 128 of our players are either a freshman or sophomore on the field. However, this also might be the most talented group I’ve ever seen at Baker and I also can’t wait to see them play,” Regalado stated. 

Along with new hires, the staff also retained Mitchel Henry (linebackers), Gerard Aligo (offensive line), Cornell Brown (wide receivers), Tucker Pauley (defensive coordinator) and head coach Miguel Regalado.

With so many new faces on the coaching staff, senior and starting left guard Parker Lane shared his perspective:

“The new coaches have been a great addition to our team. They bring a lot of past experience playing football and have also made an impact on the Baker Football Team in the past allowing for a great culture. There are a lot of great bonds between the players and coaches as they are similar in age. They bring a young mind and are eager to learn.”

Coach Miguel Regalado knows he has a new young coaching staff, but expectations aren’t changing.

“Every year at Baker you’re expected to compete for a National Championship. In order to do that you have to make the post-season National Playoffs. This year is no different and that is the expectation.”
