This past week, Michael B. Jordan took home one of the highest honors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning Outstanding Performance by a male actor in a leading role. The ceremony was held on March 1 in Los Angeles, Calif., where they recognized this year’s most outstanding performances in both film and television.
The SAG Awards are widely considered one of the most meaningful awards in the industry because they are voted on by fellow actors. This makes Jordan’s win even more significant.
The award recognized Jordan on his famous dual lead role in the movie Sinners, where he portrayed twin brothers Smoke and Stake. This performance highlighted his emotional depth and his ability to transform himself into two distinct personalities all while staying true to each character.
During Jordan’s acceptance speech, he expressed how surprised he was and went on to say how “honored and privileged” to be nominated with all of amazing fellow actors. Jordan was facing some of the strongest competition we’ve seen in this category in years. Including Timothee Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Batter After Another, Jesse Plemons for Bugonia and Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon. Even in such a competitive category, Jordan’s performance proved to be the standout of the year.
This was a very successful night for the movie Sinners, which won the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award, putting all eyes on them as the nights biggest winners.
This win added to Jordan’s many accomplishments including Screen Actors Guild Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Black Reel Awards, Critics Awards and film-festival honors that have recognized his career as a whole.
Jordan is quickly becoming one of the most respected actors in the industry and with milestones like this, his influence on the film industry will continue to grow.
