This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. To celebrate this milestone birthday Pokémon announced a series of collaborations, along with its first mainline game outing since 2022. 

On February 27, The Pokémon Company announced that its next major release will be Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves. The games have a projected release window of 2027 and will be released exclusively on Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console, which debuted in June of 2025. 

The same day as their new game announcement, the company also re-released Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, which are compatible with the Nintendo Switch. These games, released in 2004, serve as enhanced versions of the original Pokémon games Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

The celebration doesn’t stop at gaming though. Pokémon’s first official collaboration with Lego features three sets aimed at adult collectors. Sets of fan-favorite Pokémon Eevee and Pikachu were released, as well as a 6,838-piece display of First Generation Pokémon Blastoise, Charizard and Venasaur.

Time magazine released special issues featuring information about the franchise’s history and cultural impact. Four variations of this issue were released, with each featuring a different Pokémon on the cover.

Every Pokémon has had its moment in the sun during this celebration. All 1,025 Pokémon that have been featured in the games got their own unique variation of the logo for the anniversary. These logos feature each Pokémon inside of the zero of the logo, styled to look like the series’ Pokéballs. 

The online and mobile games dedicated to their series all had their own in-game celebrations for the date. Players could log in for extra items and exclusive rewards. Players in Pokémon Go were given a feature that allowed them to interact with their favorite Pokémon available in the game, even if they hadn’t obtained the characters.

While not specifically part of the 30th anniversary celebration, Pokémon released their first life-simulator game, Pokopia on March 8, 2026, using the anniversary celebration as a way to release additional information about the game in the weeks leading up to its release.

With all these special events and collaborations fans of the Pokémon series have had no shortage of content to enjoy. From gadgets to games, The Pokémon Company has left no corner unturned to keep their fans celebrating.
