Senior Jacob McGlasson’s running journey started with a community 5k he ran with his mom for fun. “At the end of the 5k I sprinted past her and that made me want to get into running,” McGlasson said.
This 5k happened when McGlasson was in fifth grade, and he kept running throughout middle school and into high school at Mill Valley.
When deciding where to go to college, McGlasson has some good insight about Baker, “my high school coach ran here at Baker, and I kind of got in with Coach Breon, and I feel like we connected really well” McGlasson said.
When McGlasson got to Baker, he ended up joining the Zeta Chi Fraternity, “it was so nice. It is like having a built-in friends group,” McGlasson said.
McGlasson’s biggest role model during his time at Baker has been Junior Luke Persson.
Persson is one of his teammates and fraternity brother at Zeta Chi, “I look up to Luke quite a bit, he’s just a good person and a hard worker,” McGlasson said. Another teammate McGlasson has looked up to during his time at Baker is Jude Graham, who graduated from Baker in 2025.
For McGlasson, one main challenge has been, “maintaining focus in both academics and athletics at the same time.”
“Prioritizing academics is hard but is of the utmost importance as an athlete to raise my expectations for performance in both academics and athletics,” McGlasson said.
During his time at Baker, McGlasson competed in numerous events for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track including: the 800m, 15k, 4×4 and 8K.
Reminiscing on his time at Baker, McGlasson said his favorite memory with Baker cross country was the 2025 Heart of America Conference cross country meet, where he set a new personal record in the 8K race. “The vibes are always high in cross country, especially during conference, so it was pretty special,” McGlasson said.
McGlasson plans to only partially retire from running, “I’ll run marathons and stuff. I run my 1st marathon next November,” McGlasson said.
While training for his marathon, McGlasson will also be continuing his studies by attending The University of Saint Mary to pursue a PhD to eventually become a Physical Therapist.
