Baker University Gaming Society, or B.U.G.S., collaborated with Student Activities Council (SAC) to host game show night on Wednesday, March 5.
The event was hosted in the Union Den at 7 p.m. for all Baker students to attend. This was SAC and B.U.G.S.’s first collaborative event. B.U.G.S’s treasurer, senior Luke Cooper, says that he hopes the club will continue to work with SAC in the future.
“SAC is a great group of folks, and a great resource for any club on campus to elevate and facilitate event ideas,” he said.
The club’s first open-to-the-public game show night included prizes like a LEGO chess set and card games for the highest scorers. Participants were challenged with guessing locations on campus, and professors based on close-up photos. Scores were calculated by how much of each location and person needed to be revealed before guessed correctly. Other amenities for those in attendance included complimentary snacks provided by SAC, and an open opportunity to play other board games after the game show activity had finished.
B.U.G.S has been a part of Baker’s campus since 2011, and has been steadily growing in members since its establishment. Cooper said that he appreciates the club’s casual nature, “You can come with who you want and play what you want, there’s no time expectation or mandatory game to play,” he said, “just a great space to foster community.” He also mentioned the benefit that clubs have for the college experience.
“Clubs at Baker are a unique way to participate and meet people outside of your normal sphere of people,” he said. “I recommend it especially for underclassmen and especially introverts like myself, as an easier and less stressful way to meet and bond with people.”
