SAC hosted its first Renaissance festival on April 9, 2026. The fair included a plethora of medieval decorations, games, crafts, foods, and raffles for prizes. There was a wide: archery, inflatable bumper balls, balloon art, and paper crown decorating. Clubs and groups auctioned off fiction book series like Lord of the Rings and A Court of Thorns and Roses, Legos and more. As students stopped by each table to place their raffle tickets in jars, knights in their armor wandered the sidewalks. Wearing chainmail armor, they informed students of the numerous weapons used in battles. Students could feel the experience of history while sipping out of a chalice and wearing their crowns.
The idea all starts with Maddy Christopher, who pitched the idea in a member meeting, “to try and set these benchmark events” during the spring. Director of Student Life, Gavin Curless, explains how this feat was successfully pulled off with the help of many, but Maddy’s idea started it all. For SAC’s first Renaissance Festival, students agree that the event was a success and one to be continued over the years to come.
There were board games featuring mythical characters and medieval strategy games. Students who dressed up wore outfits depicting elves, knights, and wizards; truly making the experience feel real. As they dined on pretzel sticks with melted cheese, chicken tenders, scones, and an array of fruit, they interacted with their friends and met new people with a similar appreciation for the Renaissance period.
